Based on the length of time from my last post, it may appear that I do indeed come from a long line of water challenged individuals, and that I truly am part of the 5% of the population who sinks and as a result my burgeoning triathlon career was cut short by a "water landing," from which one does not recover.
WRONG! I am happy to report I successfully (a relative term) completed my first sprint triathlon last June. I confess, the swim leg was not pretty. I skipped along the rocky bottom of a cold Lake Geneva more than I utilized the crawl stroke I so diligently had been practicing. And I did have an altercation with algae that stirred nightmares for weeks BUT with each foot of water I purchased, my confidence grew and I finished the swim leg well before any authority figure had to pull me out.
I won't report my overall time since the seven minutes I spent celebrating with myself and anyone who needed help in transition from swim to bike tells you I wasn't in much of hurry. Just thankful to be alive, I jumped on the bike already having completed this race in my mind. This year, I'll work for time. Last year was all about conquering fears, in more than just the athletic realm. Happy New Year!
